Every spring it involves thousands of people for the streets of Venice, all united in a day dedicated to aggregation, friendship and solidarity to discover points of the city often far from traditional tourist itineraries, in the name of sustainable tourism.

The 2026 edition is scheduled for Sunday 12th April 2026.

Any proceeds from Su e Zo per i Ponti di Venezia have always gone to support organizations involved in social issues and education, with particular attention to Salesian missions throughout the world.

The 1st “Su e Zo per i Ponti” took place in 1975 on the initiative of TGS Eurogroup, recording such a vast participation from convince the organizers to propose the initiative again. Over the years, the participation of various folk groups and musical bands has been added, livening up the stages of the route with various types of shows. After over 45 editions, every year an average of 7,000 people participate to the initiative, in addition to the 350 volunteers who serve at the refreshment points and along the routes.

The Festa della Sensa (Festival of the Ascension) is celebrated on the day of the Ascension of Christ (Sensa in Venetian) and commemorates two important events for the Republic: the first, when on 9 May of the year 1000 the Doge Peter II Orseolo helped the populations of Dalmatia threatened by the Slavs; the second, when in the year 1177, under the doge Sebastiano Ziani, Pope Alexander III and the emperor Frederick Barbarossa stipulated the peace treaty in Venice which put an end to the centuries-old dispute between the Papacy and the Empire. At the beginning, the rite was celebratory, religious and superstitious at the same time, just to propitiate the tranquility of the sea, and included a simple ceremony, with the Doge’s visit to the sea and the blessing of the waters of the Adriatic. The wedding of the sea was then grafted onto this pre-existing rite and since then Venice has celebrated its dominion over the sea by throwing a gold ring into the waters in a mystical wedding that is renewed every year with the words “Desponsamus te mare. In signum veri perpetuique dominioi”.

For the occasion the Doge wore the golden cloak with the ermine collar, the blue skirt, the red stockings, the horn and the golden shoes. With a ceremony – which saw a crowd of rowers, companions, musicians and accompanying boats – it gave life to the annual wedding with the sea, the greatest celebration of the Republic, a rite that Venice still renews today with the same spirit and with the same sense of belonging as then.

The ceremony, according to historical reconstructions, began with a mass in the monastery of Sant’Elena, after which the bishop of Castello climbed onto the sumptuous Bucintoro with a container filled with holy water, a vase with salt and an olive branch which served as sprinkler. The blessed water was poured into the sea and only then did the Most Serene Doge throw the ring into the waves. The bishop and the doge disembarked at the Lido and there a religious procession took place which headed towards the church of San Nicolò.

Today the Sensa is brought back to the city by the Festa della Sensa Committee which celebrates the event, with a water procession which has been organized for more than 25 years by the Coordination of the Rowing Associations of Voga alla Veneta, which starts from San Marco and arrives at the Lido, made up of traditional rowing boats, led by the “Serenissima”, the boat on which the mayor and other city authorities take their seats and from which the evocative throwing of a symbolic ring takes place.

Live music in Venice is the protagonist from June 30 to July 15, 2026.

Wayne McGregor (Stockport, UK, 1970) is a choreographer and director whose works are part of the repertoire of dance companies around the world. His work is rooted in dance, but embraces a variety of fields including technology, visual arts, film, opera. He is a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire).

It is an opportunity to remember the end of the terrible plague epidemic that struck Venice between 1575 and 1577. The Redeemer, the “very famous” night as the Venetians colloquially call it, is an integral part of the customs of the inhabitants of the lagoon city who continue to renew, even today, the gastronomic traditions, folklore and celebrations handed down by their ancestors which have made, over the years, this “very Venetian” festival also known internationally as well as one of the largest tourist attractions in the city.

An Island of Light

The exhibition is officially recognized by the FIAPF (International Federation of Film Producers’ Associations).

The Italian High Craftsmanship Exhibition is promoted by the Municipality of Venice and organized by Vela S.p.a. as part of the project “Venice and its lagoon: management and valorisation of tourist flows” financed by the Ministry of Tourism for the valorisation of municipalities with a tourist-cultural vocation in whose territories sites recognized by UNESCO as world heritage sites are located.

Caterina Barbieri (1990) is a musician and composer living in Berlin. Graduated in classical guitar and electroacoustic composition – as well as in modern literature – in Bologna, she studied at the Royal College of Music and at the Elektronmusikstudion in Stockholm. She has participated in some of the most important music festivals in the world.

On October 17th 2026, maxi yachts will challenge each other in a succession of tacks and marker turns between St. Mark’s Basin and the Giudecca Canal, creating a unique spectacle against the magical backdrop of St. Mark’s Square.

It runs on a single route: starting in front of Villa Pisani, the Brenta Riviera, and Venice, passing over the Ponte di Barche, Piazza San Marco, the Campanile and Palazzo Ducale. The Venicemarathon is a race that still continues to fascinate both athletes and the public.

The 42K, an international race over the Olympic distance of 42,195 km, the most classic and fascinating discipline of athletics; a marathon recognized globally by the IAAF and certified Bronze Label.

The 21K, included in the program for the first time in 2022, starting from central Mestre and arriving at the Arsenale.

The 10K is the race over the most evocative ten kilometers in the world, the last of the Venicemarathon. The race that allows anyone to experience the charm of Venice, starting from San Giuliano park.

The Family Runs, non-competitive races organized in various locations in the province that bring together children, families and all those who want to spend a day full of health and fun, involving participants in the atmosphere of the marathon.

Exposport, the Sports and Leisure Fair, headquarters and beating heart of the Venicemarathon in the days preceding the race, which takes place in the largest city park in Europe, Parco San Giuliano in Mestre.
